NYC Stadium Update

The Joint venture spearheading the NYC soccer stadium effort has been in touch with the Borough Boys with an update.

To get financiers to commit, they need commitments from the City that a stadium can be built, and to get a site commitment from the City, they need to know that the financing will become available. A catch-22 for sure, but they have attracted a Washington area large scale real estate investor/developer with roots in NYC who has joined them in talks with City officials.

With the financing taking serious shape, they have engaged in further talks with officials from the City's Economic Development Corporation, and they seem genuinely impressed with the proposal and the team's ability to realize its goals.

There are no guarantees here, but things continue to take shape. The financial community and the City are serious about trying to build a great soccer stadium in NYC and a very workable site for the stadium has been identified.

They really look forward to going public with more details, and they will. For now, all they ask is that we keep building support and excitement for Pro soccer in NYC.

(Note: The stadium pictured above is not a rendering of any potential stadium. That stadium is under construction in Gdansk, Poland)

New York already has a team. Stop coopting the Cosmos legacy. It belongs to the fans who have continued to support top-flight soccer in the region. No excuses!

The Cosmos belong to all New Yorkers who love the game. Deciding not to support a terrible organization that disrespects the game and their fans does not make you less entitled to love the Cosmos.

THE CITY OF NEW YORK HAS A SOCCER TEAM BUT THEY DO NOT PLAY IN NYC OR THE 5 BOROUGHS. THEY DO NOT REPRESENT NY BECAUSE IF YOU ARE NEW YORKS TEAM YOU PLAY HERE SUCH AS, THE YANKEES AND METS PLAY HERE. NO OFFENSE TO THE RED BULLS BUT THIS IS COSMOS COUNTRY. BEFORE THE RED BULLS, THE SOCCER NATION IN NYC WAS THE COSMOS TOWN AND IT STILL IS, IF THE COSMOS RETURN TO FRUITION, THEY WILL PLAY IN A SOCCER STADIUM WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS OF NYC, THIS DESIGN IS GREAT FOR NY AND ITS GREAT FOR QUEENS. THE COSMOS ARE NYC TEAM AND WILL ALWAYS WILL. I LIKE THE COSMOS. I HOPE THEY COME BACK.

By Michael's logic, the City of New York DOES NOT HAVE an NFL team!!! The "New York" Giants and "New York" Jets both play in, guess what, NEW JERSEY!!! Yet you have fans from all 5 boroughs who embrace both teams and are die-hard fans. Sure they played in NYC at one point, but the FACT is that they no longer play in NYC but in New Jersey. So stop crying and start supporting the local MLS team!!!

It all comes down to cost projections. As much as I would love to have the Cosmos play in Manhattan (which is the logical neutral site for NYC) it may prove to be cost prohibitive.

If they build it in Queens, you may run the risk of fracturing the fan base along the lines of Mets/Jets/Isles/Cosmos:Yanks/Giants/Rangers/Red Bulls

The club, upon its emergence, MUST WIN IMMEDIATELY, in order to be successful. Nothing builds a fan base better than winning.

If they decide to play in the Meadowlands or anywhere in NJ, this venture will fail as it should. It's asking too much from your fanbase to travel into NJ for all football and all futbol matches!
